BIKRAM’S BREATHING TECHNIQUES

Bikram yoga’s  Pranyama breathing exercise teaches us how   to slow our breathing down and maximize our lung capacities .  I often state just before half tortoise pose ,  ” the reason tortoises live so long is that they  breathe soooo   sloooow .  So make like a tortoise and slooow your breathing down .”     This is so true inside our hot  yoga room but has beneficial applications every day  as we are ‘racing’ through life .

Just the other day I was in my car  ‘racing ‘  to get from point A to point B when I was forced to come to a dead stop .   A bad traffic accident on the other side of the road on HWY  111  had police cars everywhere and cones blocking traffic. When I got up to the accident site , my heart fell into my stomach .  A small vehicle had completely flipped over after  hitting a large  landscaping truck. That was DEFINITELY a sign for me to  SLOW down ,  and I’m not talking about driving here. Ever since I took over ownership at  Bikram Yoga Palm Desert , just 2 weeks ago , my life has been a whirlwind .  I’ve  been feverishly trying to clean and freshen the studio up ,  teaching more , and running to stores to get some necessary supplies . I feel like I’ve been ‘running’  in five different directions at all times — worrying , wondering ,planning , and burning the candle at both ends !  IT’S TIME FOR ME TO MAKE LIKE A TORTOISE AND SLOOOOOW  DOWN . I need to “stop and smell the roses” as they say !

I can’t stop thinking about that car , I hope the driver is safe and well .  I hope if he/she had passengers , they are safe and well. Nothing is more important than human life . There is no where that we have to be that is more important than taking care of ourselves.  Let’s slow our breathing down . Lets slow our lives down !!!!
