Bikram Yoga is more than just exercise, it’s a therapeutic system for the body and mind. This powerful practice consists of 26 postures (asanas) and 2 breathing exercises (pranayamas) performed in a carefully heated room. The sequence is always the same, allowing students to measure progress, build consistency, and focus inward.
Practicing in a heated room warms the muscles for a deeper, safer stretch, helps prevent injury, and promotes cleansing from the inside out. The result is a complete workout for body, mind, and spirit, accessible to beginners, yet endlessly challenging for advanced practitioners.
With regular practice, students often experience:
Unlike other styles of yoga that vary from class to class, the 26&2 sequence is structured and progressive. Each posture builds on the last, systematically working every part of the body, from the inside out and from bones to skin.
Bikram Choudhury, the founder of the Bikram Yoga method, was born in Calcutta in 1946 and trained under the legendary Bishnu Ghosh, younger brother of Paramahansa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi). By the age of 13, he was the National India Yoga Champion, undefeated for three consecutive years.
Through his training and teaching, Bikram developed the original hot yoga series, later known as the 26&2, and founded the Yoga College of India™, spreading this healing method to students worldwide.
