Bikram Yoga El Paseo

Bikram Yoga Palm Desert – El Paseo is really a special place.  What makes it so special are the happy , smiling faces that walk through that door every day.  I love saying Bikram’s dialogue in Pada Hastasana (Hands to feet pose):    ” you are trying to create a tremendous stretching feeling , pain sensation …………with your smiling , happy face !!  Where else  can one associate  a pain  sensation with a smiling happy face????!!   Ah  yes , in the dental  office……………….

I heard something today  that reminded me  of a story  from years  ago .     I had a student who took my  8am  class this morning  for the first time . She came out of class waving the cold lavender spa towel  that I handed her during final savasana .   “You are a Genius ” she stated !   “What a nice touch!”

I’ve  been called many things in my life but never   a  “genius .”   The closest I ever got to hearing  that  came out of  one of my  dental hygiene patients back in Chicago .   I had this cute little 5 year old sitting out in the waiting room anxiously awaiting to have her teeth cleaned for the first time .     Her parents obviously educated her about  the visit  even gave  her my formal title – Dental Hygienist .   I came out to the waiting room to get her  and she looked at her daddy and said ,  “Is that my Dental  HyGenius?”    WOW !   Not only was I referred to as  a Genius ,   but  a  High Genius  at that !!!

Her father quickly burst my bubble by correcting her and I was relegated back to  “teeth cleaner . ”     I decided that the  next time I had dad in the chair  I would  sharpen my scalers  and  let him experience  a  slight  ” pain sensation”    with my  “smiling , happy face !! “
