Blah, Blah Bikram Blog … Mind / Body connection THANG
As a Certified Bikram yoga instructor I am privy to a students physical capabilities and their mental discipline! Every day I stand up on the podium, look out at all their beautiful faces, and throughout the 90 minute class I witness their very real, human struggles……. (and sometimes their dirty looks!!)
I wish to quote one of my all time favorite instructors (who also just happens to be my very FIRST Bikram Yoga instructor when I personally stepped foot into the hot room 10+ years ago for the first time.)
Damon Abraham used to say, “You are all equal here in the hot room. It doesn’t matter what car you drive, what house you live in, or how much money you make.” IN OTHER WORDS…….. When you are ALL here, (Despite your faults or praises, your assets or liabilities,) you are ALL down in the trenches together sweating it out, and nothing matters but you…. and YOU (collectively).
We call that group ENERGY.
Sometimes you give some. Sometimes you borrow some. Every day is different.
It’s all good!! We’re all here together in our safety zone. We all look to each other for acceptance, unconditional love, and camaraderie!
One thing the Bikram Yoga method teaches us is focus and concentration.
FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION on our Postures????? YES!! More importantly we learn true focus on our everyday lives!! The more we are able to control our focus and our concentration as we move through each Bikram asana, the better overall control we will master in our everyday lives!!!
“THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTS !!!!!!!” Ever hear that phrase??
Things happen for a reason, people enter and touch our lives for a reason, and we react and engage– or don’t…………..for a reason.
When fellow Yogi Cheri Michel and I reconnected at a party, a conversation ensued that sparked an interesting commonality.
A month later I “accidentally” revisited the topic at a wellness spa that I took my mother to for her 80th birthday.
The result is a collaboration of like minds wanting to further the human cause: To help, to nurture , to enlighten.
April showers may bring May flowers. BUT……MAY flowers leave behind seeds. THESE SEEDS BRING FORTH NEW LIFE………..
